A total effective sentence of 7 years and 6 months' imprisonment for two counts of attempted manufacture of methylamphetamine, one count of possession of methylamphetamine with intent to sell or supply, and one count of possession of MDA with intent to sell or supply, was upheld where the offender had prior convictions for manufacturing, was involved in commercial dealing, and persisted in offending. The Court confirmed that sentences for drug manufacturing offences in Western Australia have firmed up since earlier authorities, and that the combination of commercial purpose, persistence, prior record, and inherent danger of the manufacturing process places offending above the lower end of the range of seriousness.
