Where all counts on an indictment depend entirely on the uncorroborated evidence of a single complainant and the case is conducted on an all-or-nothing credibility basis, acquittals on some counts will ordinarily be irreconcilable with convictions on others unless there is an explanation for the acquittals that does not rest on doubts about the complainant's credibility. Doubts about a complainant's credibility arising from demonstrably false or implausible claims in police interviews are not capable of being resolved by the jury's advantage in seeing the witness give evidence.
