A sentencing judge who has resolved disputed facts is entitled to draw inferential findings as to motive and purpose from those facts without specifically foreshadowing each possible finding to the parties, provided the inferences are reasonably open on the evidence and relate to matters clearly in dispute. The standard non-parole period remains a guidepost only and does not require a mathematical correlation between the assessed level of objective gravity and the non-parole period imposed.
