A forceful punch to the head is highly dangerous and a person delivering such a punch is taken to have foreseen a high probability of serious injury. For an unprovoked king hit causing catastrophic permanent brain injury, committed by an offender with prior convictions for similar violence who pleaded not guilty and showed no remorse, a sentence of 4 years' imprisonment (3-year NPP) was manifestly inadequate; the Court resentenced to 7 years (5-year NPP). The decision reinforces that random street violence demands substantial weight be given to general deterrence, specific deterrence and denunciation.
