A sentence of 10 years' imprisonment (two-thirds of the maximum) for recklessly causing serious injury is not manifestly excessive where the offending is premeditated, involves a bladed weapon, causes life-threatening injuries, is motivated by vigilantism, and the offender has a relevant prior conviction for a similar stabbing offence with guarded rehabilitation prospects. Disparity with sentences in other cases, including those involving more catastrophic injuries, cannot alone establish manifest excess following Kilic and Dalgliesh.
