Section 27(3)(a) of the Crimes Act 1900 (ACT) requires only that the act of choking, suffocation or strangling be intentional; the consequence of rendering the person unconscious need not itself be intended. The case also illustrates the importance of providing expert witnesses with complete factual material, as failure to do so may significantly diminish the weight of expert evidence.
