An aggregate sentence of 46 years for murder, kidnapping, and acts of indecency involving sadistic sexual motivation, abuse of trust, and lack of remorse was upheld as not manifestly excessive. A 10% discount for a guilty plea (reduced from the conventional 25% under s 22(1A)) was within the sentencing judge's discretion for offences of this gravity. The question of whether s 22(1A) of the Crimes (Sentencing Procedure) Act 1999 applies to indicative sentences in aggregate sentencing was expressly left open.
