A trial judge is not obliged to give a specific direction regarding negative identification evidence in every case; the obligation depends on the particular circumstances. Where a comfit image is not admissible in a co-accused's case, it does not constitute negative identification evidence requiring a specific direction. DNA evidence directions need not separately address each category of DNA swab where the directions as a whole properly apprise the jury of the relevant considerations including secondary transfer, the limitations of DNA evidence, and the absence of comparison samples.
