A non-specific admission of inappropriate conduct by an accused towards a complainant (such as 'I had been naughty to [the complainant]') is capable of being left to the jury as an admission supporting the complainant's evidence generally, without requiring an HML sexual interest direction or the more comprehensive BDJ directions on identifying the conduct the subject of the admission, where the identity of the complainant is clear and there is no variety of alleged unlawful conduct. The more comprehensive directions required in R v BDJ arise from the variety of alleged unlawful conduct in that case.
