A partially suspended sentence, whether imposed in South Australia or interstate, is a 'suspended sentence' within the meaning of s 52(3)(a) of the Sentencing Act 2017 (SA) and therefore does not constitute a qualifying offence for the purposes of the serious repeat offender provisions. The phrase 'other than a suspended sentence' encompasses both wholly and partially suspended sentences. This limits the pool of prior offences that can trigger the mandatory four-fifths non-parole period under s 54.
