A sentence of 11 years 6 months' imprisonment for possession of 4.91 kg of cocaine (65-89% purity) with intent to sell or supply, where the offender acted as a 'controller' in an organised crime syndicate, is within the range of a sound exercise of the sentencing discretion. The previously accepted equivalence between cocaine and methylamphetamine for sentencing purposes must now be qualified by the increase in the maximum penalty for methylamphetamine offences to life imprisonment.
