A global sentence of seven years imprisonment with parole eligibility after two and a half years is within the range of sound sentencing discretion for 22 domestic violence offences committed over 16 months, including sexual assault, choking, and repeated assaults on a pregnant complainant. Section 9(10A) of the Penalties and Sentences Act 1992 (Qld) effectively mandates that denunciation and deterrence receive greater weight in sentencing for domestic violence offences.
