Cross-examination of an accused about breach of professional ethical standards does not contravene s 15 of the Evidence Act 1977 (Qld) where the accused's bad character has already been revealed through the accused's own admissions and the proved facts of the offending. The expression 'tending to show' in s 15(2) means 'tending to reveal', and questions that merely emphasise another facet of already-revealed immoral conduct do not reveal anything new. An improper prosecution submission regarding consciousness of guilt can be cured by an adequate corrective judicial direction.
