A sentence of 25 years' imprisonment with a 20-year non-parole period for the murder of an intimate partner by stabbing (12 wounds) was manifestly excessive where the offender pleaded guilty early, was genuinely remorseful, had no prior convictions, had good rehabilitation prospects, faced certain deportation, and did not have murderous intent when obtaining the knife. The appropriate sentence was 21 years with a 16-year non-parole period. The s 6AAA indication was 25 years with a 20-year non-parole period.
