Injuries to different parts of the same limb (e.g., knee and ankle, shoulder and elbow) sustained in the one incident or set of compensable circumstances may be aggregated for the purpose of establishing a permanent serious impairment of the function of that limb under the serious injury provisions. The obiter dicta in Lu v Mediterranean Shoes Pty Ltd suggesting otherwise should not be followed. The approach to aggregation of limb injuries is consistent with the established approach to aggregation of injuries at different levels of the spine.
