A total effective sentence of 4 years and 6 months' imprisonment with a 3-year non-parole period was upheld for aggravated burglary, false imprisonment, common assault, and making a threat to kill in a domestic violence context involving premeditation and lying in wait, notwithstanding the absence of forced entry or use of conventional weapons. Sentencing dispositions in other cases are not precedents and a single sentence does not set a benchmark or tariff. General deterrence remains an important factor in family violence sentencing.
