The starting point under the Youth Justice Act 1992 (Qld) is that no conviction is recorded against a juvenile. The nature of an armed robbery offence committed by a 14-year-old, even with a significant criminal history and offending while subject to court orders, does not of itself warrant the recording of a conviction where no co-offender had a conviction recorded, the juvenile had no prior recorded convictions, and there was no finding of poor rehabilitation prospects. The absence of evidence of specific employment impact is unsurprising where the offender is only 15 and poorly engaged educationally.
