A sentencing judge who accepts that an offender had a deprived childhood is not required to make a finding of reduced moral culpability in every case. Full weight can be given to childhood deprivation through the instinctive synthesis without a specific finding of reduced moral culpability. Where no submission is squarely made to the sentencing judge that moral culpability should be reduced on Bugmy grounds, error will not be established on appeal unless such a finding was so obvious that it should have been made without the submission.
