A non-publication order under s 7 of the Court Suppression and Non-publication Orders Act 2010 (NSW) must be no more extensive than is necessary to achieve its protective purpose. Where a judgment can be published in redacted form without endangering the person whose safety is at risk, total suppression of the judgment is not 'necessary' within the meaning of s 8, even where the offender has provided assistance to authorities.
