A sentence of seven years' imprisonment with a serious violent offence declaration for taking a child under 12 for immoral purposes, with concurrent sentences of four years for digital rape and three years for indecent treatment, was not manifestly inadequate where the offender had prior sexual offences against children and was in breach of reporting obligations, but the offending involved digital penetration with limited additional violence and was of relatively short duration. Digital penetration of a child's vagina with limited additional violence sits at the lower end of the sentencing range for rape.
