A defendant relying on common law qualified privilege must precisely plead the reciprocal interest said to give rise to the privileged occasion; the court will not search for unpleaded privileged occasions. Honest belief in the truth of defamatory matter does not negate malice where the dominant purpose of publication is to harm the plaintiff's reputation. Limited circulation of defamatory material does not of itself negate a finding of malice.
