The Prince Alfred College principles concerning vicarious liability for intentional criminal acts of employees are not confined to sexual abuse cases but apply generally. However, the mere provision of a dangerous weapon (loaded firearm) by an employer to an employee, while bringing the case closer to the vicarious liability line, is insufficient to establish that the employment was the 'occasion' for the wrongful act where the act was entirely disconnected from the employee's assigned duties and the relationship between the wrongdoer and victim lacked the authority, power, trust, control and intimacy characteristic of cases where vicarious liability has been imposed.
