A general credit finding in favour of a witness does not preclude a judge from rejecting specific aspects of that witness's evidence where objective evidence or admissions against interest weigh against the witness's account. Medical reports recording a patient's own statements about the cause of their condition provide a proper basis for cross-examination and findings based on admissions against interest, though caution is required where the medical practitioner is not called to give evidence.
