Where a co-offender has fully served a prior sentence for subsequent offending, the correct approach to totality is to treat the completed sentence as a relevant circumstance, not to hypothesise what degree of concurrency would have been ordered had both matters been sentenced together. The parity principle continues to operate as a constraint even where totality justifies some moderation in a co-offender's sentence, and totality cannot justify an unlimited degree of disparity between equally culpable co-offenders.
