A sentence of 2 years and 9 months' youth detention (approximately 27.5% of the 10-year maximum) for a young offender convicted of negligently causing serious injury was upheld where the driving involved extended erratic behaviour, street racing, and devastating injuries, notwithstanding significant mitigating factors including youth, low IQ, psychological conditions, early plea and good character.
