Discrepancies in accounts between or among witnesses in historical sexual offence cases will invariably be present but, without more, are not necessarily determinative of the existence of a reasonable doubt; an applicant must explain how or why the jury could not have been satisfied of guilt beyond reasonable doubt rather than relying on ipse dixit assertions.
