Life imprisonment remains appropriate for prolonged domestic violence offending involving extreme brutality, sexual depravity and sadistic violence over an extended period, notwithstanding guilty pleas, expressions of remorse and the offender's actions in calling emergency services that saved the complainant's life, where the gravity of the offending is such that those mitigating factors do not warrant a reduction from the maximum penalty.
