A sentencing judge is entitled to adopt a cautious approach to an offender's claimed abstinence from drug use where there is a longstanding entrenched addiction and no evidence of specialist drug rehabilitation intervention, notwithstanding expert opinions that the offender is at low risk of reoffending.
