The Court sentenced a young offender who breached a suspended sentence by committing further offences within weeks of release, discharging the previous sentences under s 38 of the Crimes (Sentencing) Act 2005 (ACT) on the basis that the new sentences of imprisonment would likely bring the offender into contact with adult offenders. The Court imposed a total sentence of 1 year 6 months and 18 days imprisonment with partial suspension from 1 May 2026 on a good behaviour order with supervision, urinalysis and treatment conditions, reflecting a 25% discount for early guilty pleas, reduced moral culpability due to Bugmy factors, and the primacy of rehabilitation for young offenders under s 133C of the CSA.
