The Court sentenced the offender for multiple Commonwealth drug importation and trafficking offences and State drug supply and proceeds of crime offences, finding him to be a trusted manager rather than a principal in the syndicate, which was the key contested issue. The Court applied Bugmy v R principles, finding a clear causal connection between the offender's deprived childhood (mother's sex work, abandonment, exposure to drugs) and his offending trajectory, and assessed excellent prospects of rehabilitation based on his exemplary custodial conduct. A Commonwealth aggregate sentence of 7 years 9 months (NPP 4 years) and a State aggregate sentence of 4 years (NPP 3 years) were imposed with partial accumulation, yielding an effective non-parole period of 6 years from the date of arrest.
