The County Court sentenced the offender to 9 months imprisonment as the prison component of a combination sentence under s 44 of the Sentencing Act 1991, followed by a 2-year community correction order, for attempting to traffick 55 kilograms of 1,4-Butanediol (2.75 times the large commercial quantity). The Court held that despite the offender's rehabilitation efforts, the seriousness of the offending and the weight of general deterrence warranted a custodial component beyond the 39 days already served on remand. The pre-sentence indication under s 6AAA was 2 years and 6 months imprisonment with an 18-month non-parole period absent the guilty plea.
