The Court sentenced the offender to three years' imprisonment with a two-year non-parole period for trafficking in a commercial quantity of 1,4-butanediol (3.944 kg, nearly double the commercial threshold), trafficking in methylamphetamine, handling stolen goods, and failing to answer bail. The offender's role was limited to a single delivery on one day at the direction of a co-offender, which placed the offending at the lower end of the range. The Court declined to apply Verdins principles (limbs 5 and 6) in the absence of expert evidence, finding that a probable drug-induced psychosis that had fully resolved did not constitute a diagnosed mental health condition sufficient to moderate sentence, and that claims of additional burden from custodial conditions were insufficiently substantiated.
