The Supreme Court of Victoria made a general litigation restraint order of indefinite duration against a self-represented litigant under s 29(1) of the Vexatious Proceedings Act 2014 (Vic), on its own motion. The Court held that the litigant had persistently and without reasonable grounds commenced or conducted vexatious proceedings over approximately nine years, including numerous unsuccessful challenges to personal safety intervention orders across the Magistrates' Court, County Court, Supreme Court, Court of Appeal, and High Court. In exercising the discretion to make a general rather than extended order, the Court emphasised the litigant's complete lack of insight, her stated intention to continue litigating until all orders were declared invalid, her defiant and contemptuous attitude towards the courts, and her pattern of making unfounded allegations against judicial officers and legal practitioners.
