A sentence of 2 years imprisonment for motor vehicle manslaughter involving a blood alcohol content of 0.138%, erratic driving at speed, and an extensive traffic record is manifestly inadequate and more appropriate for dangerous driving causing death. Where the jury convicts of manslaughter rather than dangerous driving causing death, weight must be given to that verdict in sentencing. A defendant's decision to defend a manslaughter charge does not of itself demonstrate absence of remorse.
