A right-turning driver who proceeds through a gap in stationary traffic without being able to see whether oncoming traffic is approaching in an adjacent lane bears much greater culpability than a driver passing stationary traffic on the left side of the road, even where the passing lane is unmarked. A trial judge's discounts on future loss assessments will not be disturbed on appeal where they fall within an appropriate range, even if the reasoning process is not fully exposed.
