When sentencing for multiple armed robberies committed over a period of months, the effective total sentence must be significantly greater than would be appropriate for one or two offences standing alone, and concurrent sentences that add only marginally to the longest individual sentence will be manifestly inadequate. Purported reassurances by an armed robber to victims that they will not be hurt carry no mitigating weight. Commission of offences while on bail is a significant aggravating factor reflecting contempt for the law, not merely foolhardiness.
