The Bonython body of knowledge test, not the American Frye general acceptance test or Daubert test, governs the admissibility of novel scientific evidence in Australian courts. DNA profiling evidence using the Profiler Plus system is admissible where the system is shown to be generally accepted as reliable by the forensic science community. The likelihood ratio is an admissible method of presenting the significance of a DNA profile match without requiring the use of Bayes' Theorem. Laboratory error rates need not be incorporated into the likelihood ratio calculation; the possibility of error is a separate matter for the tribunal of fact. A single incident of unusual sexual conduct during a consensual experimental relationship does not establish a relevant sexual predilection sufficient to be admissible as propensity evidence.
