An Edwards-Zoneff direction is not required where lies or post-offence conduct (including disposal of a murder weapon) are relied upon as part of a circumstantial case rather than as implied admissions of guilt. A lie that is only capable of going to credit does not require such a direction. Where the accused is alleged to be the perpetrator, no complicity or concert direction is required even in a joint trial where the co-accused is charged as a secondary party.
