A disparity in total sentences between co-offenders of 14 years versus 8 years (and 4 years for a cooperating co-offender) does not give rise to a justifiable sense of grievance where the more heavily sentenced offender played a significantly greater role as the armed person who committed each robbery, had a worse criminal record, and was on parole at the time of offending. A co-offender who pleads guilty and gives evidence for the prosecution is entitled to substantial mitigation, and the resulting disparity does not found a parity complaint by a co-offender convicted after trial.
