The discount for a guilty plea should in principle be the same whether or not the offender also receives a further reduction for cooperation with authorities, unless to do so would result in an obviously inadequate sentence. A late guilty plea should still attract a substantial discount, and a discount of approximately 7.7% for a late plea was held to be manifestly inadequate. The parity principle requires that an offender who pleads guilty and cooperates should receive a meaningfully lower sentence than a co-offender convicted after trial.
