Single parenthood and the deprivation of a child of a parent who has been a figure in the child's life for only a quarter of it does not amount to exceptional circumstances warranting alteration of a sentence for serious drug offences. The commission of drug offences while on bail for earlier drug offences of the same category, arising from a completely separate and discrete set of facts, will carry significant aggravating weight warranting a cumulative sentence. A total effective sentence of 8 years' imprisonment for possession of approximately 125 grams of methylamphetamine and 5.6 grams of heroin with intent to sell or supply is within the appropriate sentencing range for a middle range drug dealer.
