For trafficking in methylamphetamine and cocaine as schedule 2 drugs involving relatively small quantities (approximately 3.5 grams pure methylamphetamine, 0.5 grams cocaine), limited personal gain, and significant mitigating factors, the appropriate sentencing range is around three years' imprisonment. Supply counts that form elements of the trafficking charge should not attract separate sentences. Higher penalties are to be expected for offences committed after the rescheduling of amphetamines.
