For dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death while adversely affected by alcohol (BAC under 0.15), with an extensive prior traffic history including recent alcohol-related disqualification, a head sentence of four years is at the bottom of the permissible range. A non-parole period of nine months on a four-year head sentence is manifestly inadequate for such an offence. The sentencing range for offences of this kind with aggravating traffic history is approximately four to six years.
