A sentence of 2 years' imprisonment with a 12-month non-parole period for armed robbery with a syringe committed by a youthful first-time prisoner with drug addiction and strong rehabilitation prospects is within the permissible range. The decision to suspend or not suspend a sentence is exquisitely within the sentencing judge's discretion and will not be disturbed on appeal absent demonstrated error. Suspension of sentences for drug-addicted offenders is not always the best option because of the risk of breaching suspension orders when unsupervised.
