An effective total sentence of 10 years' imprisonment (4 years cumulative on 6 years) is not manifestly excessive for a 20-year-old persistent offender with 58 prior convictions who committed 14 offences including aggravated burglaries, motor vehicle thefts, robberies and reckless driving, where the dominant sentencing considerations are punishment, deterrence and protection of the public. Youth, while a significant mitigating factor, is outweighed by persistent offending history and failure to respond to prior sanctions.
