Under s 25(2)(d)(ii) of the Road Transport (General) Act 1999 (NSW), a court may not impose a disqualification from holding a driver's licence for life; the power to order lifetime disqualification is confined to the habitual traffic offender provisions in s 30(2). The word 'period' in s 25(2)(d)(ii) connotes a finite duration whose end date is ascertainable at the time of imposition. A discount of one-third for early guilty pleas and assistance to authorities is not necessarily inadequate where the quality and reliability of the assistance is questionable.
