The appropriate sentencing range for attempted murder in Queensland is generally 10 to 17 years' imprisonment. A sentence at the bottom of that range (10 years) may be upheld even where there is an extensive criminal record, life-threatening injuries, and breach of a Domestic Violence Order, provided the court is not persuaded the sentence is so low as to warrant interference on an Attorney-General's appeal applying Malvaso and Dinsdale principles.
