A total effective sentence of four years and six months with a two-year non-parole period for culpable driving causing death at 106 km/h in a 60 km/h zone, where the driver was making the car 'bunny hop' to music and had prior speeding convictions, was manifestly inadequate and was increased to five years and six months with a three-year non-parole period. General deterrence remains a significant factor in culpable driving sentencing. The Court also signalled that sentencing courts should give greater attention to reading and addressing Victim Impact Statements during sentencing proceedings.
