Cases involving dangerous operation of a motor vehicle while intoxicated that involve police pursuits are materially more serious for sentencing purposes than cases without pursuits, and comparable sentences from pursuit cases should not be used to justify actual imprisonment in non-pursuit cases. A wholly suspended sentence with an extended operational period may adequately serve both general and personal deterrence for a first offender of good character convicted of dangerous driving while intoxicated where there was no collision, injury, excessive speed, or police pursuit.
