Sentences for aggravated burglary of commercial premises must reflect general deterrence and the increased maximum penalty of 20 years' imprisonment introduced in 1996. Suspension of sentence is inappropriate where the offender has previously breached both an intensive supervision order and a suspended sentence, notwithstanding rehabilitation efforts. Sentences for offences arising from separate transactions should ordinarily be cumulative, subject to the totality principle.
